With this patch, we've reached the point we've been aiming for in terms of Story Mode side-content. ![]() ![]() Since the content is quite spread out, the easiest way to find it is to use the completion tracker on the world map! We've also moved boss battles to the arena instead of the Memory Room, and you can now refight all the bosses in the game! Also, some more bosses have been given drops, which will be handed out retroactively to characters that have already beaten said bosses in Story Mode.įor those of you with a bazillion unused silver points, there has opened up a new service in the Collectors HQ that you might want to check out! These are optional, but their rewards will serve a purpose at the final portion (which is yet to come). Unlike the recent patches, this one actually ties in to the main story in a significant way, by introducing some end-game "challenges". With this patch, we're now pretty satisfied with the amount of side-content in Story Mode!

Note: the core Syntorial lectures are videos with which interactive exercises are seamlessly integrated. At the time I’m writing this, I have just completed the full Massive lesson pack and will describe how the lesson packs work based on my experience with that one (but I have every intention of going through the full Z3ta+ 2 Lesson Pack when time permits). The Lesson packs consist mainly of a series of video tutorials, the total lengths of which vary from just under three hours to nearly five hours in the case of the Massive Lesson Pack. At least one more lesson pack (Serum) is in the production stage. The software synths currently include Z3ta+ 2, Sylenth1 and Massive. The hardware synth is a Minimoog Voyager. These extras are called Lesson Packs, and they are included in the basic price of the product – they do not need to be purchased separately. What’s new (currently) is the inclusion of one real-life hardware synth and three software synths as extensions to the course. These two qualities are carried over in the new Syntorial features we’ll discuss below. The lessons are exceedingly well planned and Professor Hanley is a gifted lecturer. The other is that Joe Hanley is a natural when it comes to teaching. First of all, the teaching mechanism using an embedded synth with formal programming challenges is highly effective. Syntorial has two key things going for it. Doing nothing but reading a text tutorial or watching a video tutorial will not result in long-term retention of the subject matter. Like many things, subtractive synth sound creation can be learned through self-teaching (as opposed to a formal classroom experience), but like most such experiences, one must apply the knowledge for it to be retained. As the course progresses, we get more and more functionality in play: modulation sources, effects, audio-rate modulation options like FM, etc. Initially we see only very basic synth modules like a pair of oscillators with only four waveforms (saw and pulse of three different widths) and a basic low-pass filter. More and more of the Syntorial synth is exposed as the course progresses. Using the embedded software synth, they involve switching between a preset, the programming of which cannot be seen, and a blank canvas preset upon which the student must select parameters to match the challenge preset. These challenges can be quite … well, challenging. The challenges include “pop quizzes” in which the student answers multiple choice questions, sometimes based on a sound being played.īut the real learning experience is driven by challenges in which the student must match an unknown preset with one the student programs. Using a carefully planned exposition, Joe Hanley takes the student through all the key stages of synth sound design using a combination of audio lectures and challenges. Syntorial includes an integrated full-function, albeit basic, subtractive software synth. ![]() Syntorial is a computer-based teaching course in how to do sound-design/programming with a basic subtractive synth. The new features simply don’t take very long to explain.īefore we dive in, though, here’s a brief recap of what Syntorial was at the time of the earlier review and why the earlier version excelled at what it set out to do. This will be a somewhat short review, but don’t infer from the brevity that the new features are of limited value. We are back for another look, because since that time Joe Hanley has added some valuable new features that make what was already a great product even more attractive. We reviewed Syntorial in our July 2016 issue. Syntorial is the inspired creation of Joe Hanley, the CEO of and creative force behind Audible Genius. We return for another look at the new features. Syntorial, the superb computer-based synth sound creation teaching course just got even better. ![]() Three separate players may have “day at the beach,” “getting a tan,” and “sunburn.” Your goal is to finish the game with the most cash possible, cash you earn by driving up the price of pieces you made, and successfully winning bids for high value pieces - a trick easier said than done with the number of thematically similar pieces going around. Where things get interesting is that multiple players will likely have prompts that are vaguely similar to each other. It’s quick, easy, and endlessly entertaining. Your friends then judge “WHO IS MOST FUNNY” and vote on which answer tickled them the most. Quiplash is by far the most free-form of the games, simply setting up jokes and asking the players to fill in a punchline. It’s identical to the original, but includes the DLC question pack and an extra 100 prompts to spice things up (nice to have after starting to run into rerun jokes after playing a lot of the original). Quiplash, which was separately released last summer as a stand-alone title, returns as Quiplash XL. This feature is particularly great for streamers and folks with large social media circles, just send out the room code and anyone who is interested and join in and see how clever you and your friends are free of charge. While Fibbage still supports 2-8 players, it has borrowed the audience feature of Quiplash to allow audience members watching on a stream or through the web based game client to vote on their favorite answers, sliding even more points to the most entertaining or diabolical players. Fibbage 2 keeps the same great format of creating believable (or hilarious) lying answers to trivia questions to bamboozle your friends while adding in a few new tricks (the new one-time use “deFIBrilllator” gives you a 50/50 chance between the right answer and a single lie instead of seven) and more than doubling the number of questions of the original. The Jackbox Party Pack 2 includes five games in the collection, two of which are returning Jackbox favorites. With the exception of a few speed bumps, and possibly one dud game, Party Pack 2 is a near perfect vehicle to turn your casual get-together into a chuckle factory. While the new additions work, you can tell Jackbox Games didn’t want to stray too far from the original recipe, and for good reason. This time with an increased emphasis on Twitch support, large audiences, and slightly more complex mechanics. Now Jackbox Games is back with another collection to titillate and mortify your party guests. The other half of the equation was a quirky collection of truly hilarious games guaranteed to bring out the best of the worst in your friends. ![]() This was thanks in no small part to the game’s innovative interface that allowed friends to play along with their phone, tablet, or laptop rather than trying to figure out a spiderweb of controllers and peripherals strewn across the living room floor. Officially, Nvidia internalizes the decision. Sure, the GeForce GTX 750 Ti didn't have it, but the 760 did. ![]() Generationally, this is the highest-end board we can recall without the technology. Notice the lack of an SLI connector up top? Nvidia recommends a GeForce GTX 1070 or 1080 to gamers looking for more performance than a 1060 delivers (of course), and does not support SLI on the 1060. The less-complex processor, coupled with less memory on a simpler PCA, results in a 120W TDP. Whereas the larger GPU is composed of 7.2 billion transistors on a 314 mm² die, Nvidia packs 4.4 billion FinFET transistors into 200 mm² for GP106. Of course, GP106 is manufactured using the same TSMC 16FF+ process as GP104. Finally, Pascal has a new 8:1 mode that combines 4:1 constant compression to 2x2 blocks with 2:1 compression of the differences between them." There’s also a new 4:1 mode that covers cases when per-pixel differences are very small and compressible into even less space. Adapted from our GTX 1080 coverage, " delta color compression tries to achieve 2:1 savings, and this mode is purportedly enhanced to be usable more often. Although that figure is lower than the GTX 980's 224 GB/s, remember also that Pascal employs new lossless techniques to extract savings in the memory subsystem, effectively increasing usable bandwidth. Nvidia drops 6GB of 8 GT/s GDDR5 onto the board, serving up to 192 GB/s of peak throughput. Like the larger GP104, each controller is associated with eight ROPs and 256KB of L2, adding up to 48 ROPs and 1.5MB of cache. Six 32-bit memory controllers provide an aggregate 192-bit data path. The processor’s back-end is trimmed down, too. The chip benefits from the same optimized timings that let Nvidia crank the clock rates up on GP104, facilitating a base frequency of 1506 MHz and a typical GPU Boost rating of 1708 MHz. GP106 comes equipped with two GPCs, so you end up with a total of 1280 CUDA cores and 80 texture units. ![]() The mappings you provide to mapping must be wrapped in the aes() function, so you would write something like mapping = aes(x = col1, y = col2), as shown below.īelow, in the ggplot() command the data are set as the case linelist. This “mapping” occurs with the mapping = argument. For most geoms, the essential components that must be mapped to columns in the data are the x-axis, and (if necessary) the y-axis. Most geom functions must be told what to use to create their shapes - so you must tell them how they should map (assign) columns in your data to components of the plot like the axes, shape colors, shape sizes, etc. We will explain each component in the sections below. Add design elements to the plot such as axis labels, title, fonts, sizes, color schemes, legends, or axes rotationĪ simple example of skeleton code is as follows. These functions all start with geom_ as a prefix. Add “geom” layers - these functions visualize the data as geometries ( shapes), e.g. as a bar graph, line plot, scatter plot, histogram (or a combination!).Typically the dataset is also specified in this command Begin with the baseline ggplot() command - this “opens” the ggplot and allow subsequent functions to be added with +.Ggplot objects can be highly complex, but the basic order of layers will usually look like this: The result is a multi-layer plot object that can be saved, modified, printed, exported, etc. Plotting with ggplot2 is based on “adding” plot layers and design elements on top of one another, with each command added to the previous ones with a plus symbol ( +). If you want inspiration for ways to creatively visualise your data, we suggest reviewing websites like the R graph gallery and Data-to-viz. ![]() You can also download this data visualization with ggplot cheatsheet from the RStudio website. There are several extensive ggplot2 tutorials linked in the resources section. See the page ggplot tips for suggestions and advanced techniques to make your plots really look nice. In this page we will cover the fundamentals of plotting with ggplot2. Using ggplot2 generally requires the user to format their data in a way that is highly tidyverse compatible, which ultimately makes using these packages together very effective. The syntax is significantly different from base R plotting, and has a learning curve associated with it. ggplot2 benefits from a wide variety of supplementary R packages that further enhance its functionality. The “gg” in these names reflects the “ grammar of graphics” used to construct the figures. Its ggplot() function is at the core of this package, and this whole approach is colloquially known as “ggplot” with the resulting figures sometimes affectionately called “ggplots”.
